Oh My God Movie

Written on October 6, 2010 – 5:45 pm | by Patryc Lampasi

OMG Movie

One Filmmaker. 23 Countries.

One Question: “What is God?”

Director’s Statement

In every corner of the world, there’s one question that can never be definitively answered, yet stirs up equal parts passion, curiosity, self-reflection and often wild imagination: “What is God?”

Filmmaker Peter Rodger explores this profound, age-old query in the provocative non-fiction Oh My God Movie. This visual odyssey travels the globe with a revealing lens examining the idea of God through the minds and eyes of various religions and cultures, everyday people, spiritual leaders and celebrities.

Rodger’s goal: To give the viewer the personal, visceral experience of some kind of reasonable, meaningful definition of one of the most used—some might say overused—words in most every language. His quest takes him from the United States to Africa, from the Middle East to the Far East, where such fundamental issues as: “Did God create man or did man create God?”, “Is there one God for all religions?”, and “If God exists, why does He allow so much suffering?” are explored in candid discussions.

Over a three-year period Peter Rodger traveled across 23 countries asking men, women, children, religious leaders, and celebrities what ‘God’ means to them. Along the way he experienced an incredible array of faith expressions and had no small number of unforgettable adventures.

Oh My God the Movie is a result of this journey.

Pranayama Breathing

Written on October 2, 2010 – 12:21 pm | by Patryc Lampasi

The Practice of Pranayama Breathing

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth.  ~Sanskrit Proverb

Pranayama is a Sanskrit word meaning “lengthening of the prana or breath”. The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Prāna, life force, or vital energy, particularly, the breath, and “āyāma”, to lengthen or extend. It is often translated as control of the life force (prana). When used as a technical term in yoga, it is often translated more specifically as “breath control”. Wikipedia

“Yoga works primarily with the energy in the body, through the science of pranayama breathing, or energy-control. Prana means also ‘breath.’

The higher teachings of yoga take one beyond techniques, and shows how to direct concentration through breath-control in such a way as not only to harmonize human with divine consciousness, but to merge his consciousness in the Infinite.”

~Paramahansa Yogananda

Benefits of Pranayama Breathing

Research shows that practicing pranayama breathing has the ability to offer relief to symptoms of asthma, and associated conditions. In addition, studies suggest that the breath has also shown to manage anxiety and stress as it faciliates a deep relaxation response on the nervous system.

Developed by the ancient yogis for purification, pranayama promotes an increase of oxygen supply to the blood and the brain which in turn fortifies emotional, mental and physical resilience.

Live and Become

Written on September 29, 2010 – 4:53 pm | by Patryc Lampasi

Live and Become Movie

One of the most heart-felt films I’ve seen in a long while. The final scene is breathtaking, one that has left a deep resounding echo throughout my whole being and heart.

Live and Become

A powerful and engaging film!

Synopsis: Based on the exodus of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, Live and Become is a magnificent, epic story of an Ethiopian boy who is airlifted from a Sudanese refugee camp to Israel in 1984 during Operation Moses.

Shlomo is plagued by two big secrets: He is neither a Jew nor an orphan, just an African boy who survived and wants, somehow, to fulfill his Ethiopian mother’s parting request that he, “Go. Live and become.”

Buoyed by a profound and unfaltering motherly love – both in his memory and in the arms of his adoptive mother – he ultimately finds an identity and a happiness all his own.

Director Radu Mihaileanu, a Romanian Jew who fled oppression in his own country, brings compassionate focus to an ambitious story of inner turmoil amidst turbulent times.
